I don’t know much about love at first sight and the little I do know is just from bad movies But what I expirenced this summer was something bigger and so much more. I was allowed to experience friendship at first sight.
When you are travelling alone to a new country thousands of kilometres (or miles) away of your home the homesickness will come and catch you up very soon and very bad. The first days aren‘t good and you are looking for reasons to go back. And while you are looking for more and more reasons to leave you will find more and more reasons to stay! One of the reasons of my journey were three wonderful, funny and in the beginning foreign girls. The one teached me that the life you are living is yours and you should always do the best out of it. The other one teached me to just follow my nose and do the things I want to do even if it’s not always completely legal. The last girl teached me that even if something that beautiful comes to an end it doesn’t mean that everything around it has to come to an end.
This text is part of a „project“ Iti wanted to do since you, Martin, and I think I‘m talking for everyone now changed our lifes to the best. The day I got to know about your existence was the day we rode to the reykjadalur. And the first time I saw you riding was also this day but not for a long time like we all remember. This could have been the best day in Iceland and on this day I‘m sure I was convinced that it can’t get better but everyday you worked and later lived with us I realised that this day was nothing compared to everyday that I spent with you! You gave all your friends a song that reminds you of them and I think I found the perfect song that fits you: I‘ll be there for you; yep it’s the friends song but it is a comfort song to everyone and so are you. You are there for all your friends and then you call them when they are completely done with everything because they quit their job. Do you remember the first words of this call? „Congratulations“ This one word and later your texts helped me more than you can imagine to get up and fight. And your words always warm our hearts. You just know what to say and this is a gift! During our time in Iceland you had the best jokes, funniest quotes and never made anyone feel uncomfortable. I will never forget our „too hot to handle“ evenings and the picture of you and Axelle being part of it in the ugliest bikinis in my head. To come back to the beginning if you want to go somewhere to learn about something be aware of <the company where we worked>, they might teach you bullshit but if you are lucky and meet a Martin every little tear and pain was worth it because she has the kindest soul, sweetest heart and fulfills kinda every stereotype the Germans have about the „perfect American Girl“. And I want everyone to find a Martin like I did and like the other girls did because if you once found your Martin you have a safe place and someone who you can call in the middle of the night (not just because it’s day in America when it’s night in Germany) and a new friend! This is my experience with friendship at first sight and let’s be honest: Who needs love at first sight when you can have this!!
I am so fucking thankful for the summer! And remember just put together the most random and different horse girls and they will create something that lasts an entire lifetime. PS: I know that this sounds a little extra sometimes but there is a lot of pressure on me writing something as poetic and meaningful as you always do…
